Keep trying

We took a walk yesterday (5 miles) around Mill Creek Park and Lake by our campsite in Salem Oregon.  There were lots of Canadian Geese in the lake, mostly laying on the grass, sleeping. I was able to get real close and they didn't move much. Tried to capture them with drawing and color. I found the feathers very hard to draw effectively - so much white stripes in them, I couldn't get it - but have a memory of the walk in my sketch.  Also, lots of flowers everywhere here in Oregon, I picked some California (in Oregon) Poppies to bring home and draw.  Keep trying, keep practicing.

  1. Marilyn this is wonderful! It is so true that by taking this time to journal your walk you have captured this moment. I did see your wonderful photos on your blog, may we paint from them? Keep up the good work!

  2. Oh I forgot this, you mentioned your struggle with the feathers. Don't worry about all the little details, you captured them perfectly! In a painting of this size that kind of detail is very tedious. I think you did the shadowing and picked your colors very well.

  3. Thanks Desiree - yes you can use any of my photos, my favorite was the "ballet goose". I take lots of photos in hope of one day using them for inspiration or in a quilt.
